The Brief
After a year of cancelled celebrations and collective setbacks, Myer wanted to make Christmas 2020 feel like more than just a holiday. The campaign needed to reignite the nation’s spirit, encouraging Australians to come together and celebrate.
The Idea
Make This Year Bigger Than Christmas inspired Australians to turn one day into every celebration. From missed birthdays and graduations to weddings, bar mitzvahs, Easter, Ramadan, Chinese New Year — even the Olympics — we combined them all into one chaotically joyful moment of togetherness.
This was a world-first for retail: a major department store embracing every culture and celebration in one campaign. Visually, the campaign featured a bold typographic system, a modern twist on traditional festive colours, and a graphic suite of illustrated backgrounds that landed the concept with energy and wit across every channel.
Results
Store and website traffic increased by 11%
Average spend per visit rose by 9%
Delivered Myer’s biggest opening month of Christmas sales in eight years
Earned media reached an audience of 13 million, generating over $11 million in value
